Oklahoma is a state that is located near the Great Plains, and a sizable part of this state is also located in the south. The largest city in this state is Oklahoma City, and it is also the capital. The Census officially considers Oklahoma to be a southern state, but because it is located near the center of the country, it has a number of characteristics that separate it from other states. Oklahoma was admitted to the Union in 1907, and it was the 46th state to do so. This state was inhabited by a large number of Native American groups such as the Choctaw, and the state has the largest Native American population of any state in the U.S. Oklahoma has been given the nickname "Native America."
There are a number of mountain ranges in this state, and one of the most prominent is the Quachitas. The other mountain ranges are the Wichitas and the Arbuckles. Of all the states in the United States, Oklahoma has been found to have the most varying terrain. Some of the industries which are very popular in this state are tourism, natural gas, and food. In fact, Oklahoma is one of the largest producers of food in the United States. It produces food products like poultry, wheat, soy, and dairy products. The GSP for this state was $86 billion in 1999. In addition to food production, electrical products, rubber, and transportation are additional industries which are prominent. Oklahoma City is a center of commerce in this state.
